Live Theatre Post

This year I included a wish on my [livejournal.com profile] holiday_wishes list for people to support local theatre and shows. This is your place to tell me about what you have seen this year.

Wow, I will have to check it out. We are always on the look out for smaller shows. What sort of tech requirements?

Painted set, no props, just lights and sound.

Sounds like our current show. What's next on the line up for you? WE audition for Avenue Q this weekend.

Three different burlesque shows in Feb (and I will be at exactly NONE of the rehearsals....shoot me)

You want to trade? We are hosting a beauty pageant in February, but other than that and rehearsals for "Avenue Q," we are dark for the month.

Nah, I'm looking forward to the burlesque, but I'm really missing skating.

[identity profile] spikesgirl58.livejournal.com 2014-01-13 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Sadly, skating is one of those no-no things for me now. I trashed my back flipping a platform back in '05. Now, like so many other techs, I am plagued with back issues.

It's a female dog getting old.

[identity profile] ghost-light.livejournal.com 2014-01-13 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I have a terribly bad back and skating has helped a lot.

I had to undergo surgery and have a mess of hardware put in to support my spine. My surgeon would throttle me if I tried. One bad fall and I could be permanent messed up. So, sadly none of that or horse riding, mountain climbing, 4x4, jumping, etc. He saved me from a life in a wheelchair, so I tend to follow his instructions petty closely these days.

Mine is pretty fucked up, bit not requiring hardware. My only restriction is that if I take a fall and my hand goes numb, I need to seek help immediately because I likely ruptured one of the herninated discs in my neck.

[identity profile] spikesgirl58.livejournal.com 2014-01-14 12:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Mine is in my lower back - lumbar - and was making my legs go wonky. As long as I am careful, don't exceed my weight limit, and try not to forget that I'm disabled now, I should be able to avoid anymore surgery. Still doesn't keep me from theatre - the things you do for love.

Theatre is imperative! ;)

[identity profile] spikesgirl58.livejournal.com 2014-01-14 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been doing it since 1974. Couldn't live without it.

[identity profile] ghost-light.livejournal.com 2014-01-14 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I started in 7th grade and took a couple breaks.

[identity profile] spikesgirl58.livejournal.com 2014-01-14 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I was in tenth grade and got suckered in when a friend asked if I had anything to do after school one day. My whole world changed...

[identity profile] ghost-light.livejournal.com 2014-01-14 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
My dad was bitching about having to go to the school plays to watch other kids and suggested I audition for the next one.

Ah, you have to appreciate parents. Mine just sent our theatre a resume (yeah, right). He wants to design "Legally Blonde" next year, but I think he just wants to come home for a while (he works on Broadway as a designer) on our dime.

[identity profile] ghost-light.livejournal.com 2014-01-14 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
That's really kind of awesome!

[identity profile] spikesgirl58.livejournal.com 2014-01-14 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Considering there was no pressure for him to follow his old mum. My best moment was building a set for him (South Pacific). Ironically, it was the last set I built as my back blew after that.

[identity profile] ghost-light.livejournal.com 2014-01-15 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
My mom enjoys seeing plays, but neither of them ever pursued it.

[identity profile] spikesgirl58.livejournal.com 2014-01-15 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
My folks never really expressed an interest in seeing anything I'd done, well, when I was in high school they came. But then I moved to the West Coast and that was that.

[identity profile] ghost-light.livejournal.com 2014-01-15 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Same here. Mom hasn't seen one of my shows since college, my dad since high school.

[identity profile] spikesgirl58.livejournal.com 2014-01-15 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
You are lucky they are still with you. I lost Da in 1983 and Mum in 2000...

[identity profile] ghost-light.livejournal.com 2014-01-15 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I really am. I got to see them at Christmas this year.
